About Us
Building Tanzania’s Digital Future, One School at a Time.
Tanzania Enlightenment Development Innovations (TEDI) is an education innovation not for profit organization working to close the digital skills gap in underserved public schools in Tanzania.
We believe every young person deserves access to the tools, skills, and confidence needed to learn, create, and lead in a digital world. Yet many students still go through school without regular access to computers, practical digital learning, trained teachers, or clear pathways into future-ready opportunities.
TEDI exists to change that.
Our work is anchored by One Computer Lab One School program, our flagship model for transforming schools into Digital Excellence Hubs. Through this model, we equip schools with computer labs, train teachers, support practical digital learning, engage communities, and connect students to entrepreneurship and employability pathways.
Our Flagship Model
One Computer Lab One School (OCOS).
One Computer Lab One School is more than a computer lab program. It is a school transformation model.
Each Digital Excellence Hub is designed to help students move from basic computer literacy to digital creativity, coding, website development, artificial intelligence, data analysis, entrepreneurship, and career readiness.
The model is built to work in real school environments, including places with limited internet access. By using offline learning tools, teacher training, school ownership, and district-level support, TEDI helps ensure that digital learning is practical, sustainable, and scalable.
How We Work
TEDI works with Government, Schools, Communities, Donors, and Private-sector partners to make digital learning part of everyday education.
01
Alignment
Our approach begins with alignment. Before establishing a Digital Excellence Hub, we work with government and district leadership to build ownership, identify schools, and create the conditions for long-term success.
02
Co-Funding
A key part of our scaling model is local government co-funding. District partners contribute 20–30% of the total cost of scaling within their districts, helping ensure that the One Computer Lab One School model is not seen as a short-term donor project, but as a shared investment in public education.
03
Support Structure
Once alignment and co-funding are secured, TEDI supports schools to set up functional computer labs, train teachers, introduce structured digital learning pathways, and track progress through evidence and impact data.
04
Capacity Building
We do not simply donate equipment and leave. We build capacity inside schools, strengthen local ownership, and use evidence to improve and scale what works.
Turning Digital Skills into Livelihood Opportunities
TEDI equips young people to use technology as a practical tool for learning, creativity, income generation, and problem-solving. Through our computer labs students gain access to practical digital learning environments where they develop skills that help them access work opportunities, start small ventures, support local businesses, create digital solutions, and improve their livelihoods.
Our goal is to ensure that digital learning does not stop at the classroom. It becomes a pathway to confidence, employability, entrepreneurship, and meaningful participation in Tanzania’s growing digital economy.
Our Impact and Vision for Scale
TEDI has already reached thousands of young people, trained teachers, established computer labs, and built strong partnerships across districts and regions.
We are now scaling the One Computer Lab One School model through deeper collaboration with local government authorities. Our long-term goal is to work with government to make Digital Excellence Hubs part of Tanzania’s public education system, supported by district co-funding, school ownership, donor investment, and private-sector partnership.
Through this approach, TEDI aims to support hundreds of schools and reach millions of young people with practical digital skills that improve learning, employability, entrepreneurship, and livelihoods.
Our Promise
