ENTREPRENEURS GENERATORS
Program Overview
TEDI’s Entrepreneurs Generators Program is designed to turn Tanzania’s entrepreneurial aspirations into reality. We provide holistic support that combines practical training, mentorship and access to resources.
The Problem
Tanzania’s youthful population is both a tremendous asset and a major challenge. People aged 15–35 comprise more than one‑third of the population yet many finish school without the skills or opportunities to secure decent work. While 41 % of young adults report having at least a secondary education, formal jobs remain scarce; a quarter of youth (26 %) are unemployed and actively seeking work.
Two‑thirds (66 %) say they would like to start their own business, but they face significant barriers: a lack of entrepreneurial skills and inadequate training, limited access to finance, and weak support networks. Around 800 000 young people enter the labour market each year, and most end up in the informal economy, which employs an estimated 72–80 % of the workforce. At the same time, Tanzania’s digital transformation is uneven. Despite having 21.82 million internet users and a 31.9 % internet‑penetration rate, digital literacy remains a hurdle: many young people lack the skills to leverage technology for learning, networking or business. Without targeted support, a generation of talented youth risk being left behind.
Our Solution
Entrepreneurship and business-skills training
We equip participants with the fundamentals of ideation, business planning, financial literacy and digital marketing. Courses are delivered through interactive workshops and online modules, ensuring youth gain both theoretical knowledge and hands‑on experience.
Mentorship and networks
Each cohort is matched with experienced local entrepreneurs and industry mentors who provide guidance, networking opportunities and real‑world insights. We also host peer‑learning sessions so participants can share challenges and solutions.
Access to tools and capital
Through partnerships with microfinance institutions and government funds, we connect promising ventures to start‑up capital and micro‑loans. We also offer shared workspaces, internet access and basic equipment so young entrepreneurs can prototype and grow their businesses.
Inclusivity and outreach
The program prioritises youth in under‑served communities, especially women and individuals with limited digital access. We work with schools, community centres and local leaders to identify and support participants, ensuring opportunities reach those most in need.
Achievements So Far
By integrating entrepreneurship, financial literacy and digital skills, the Entrepreneurs Generators Program addresses the twin challenges of youth unemployment and the digital divide. Participants emerge with viable business ideas, a supportive network, and the confidence to drive their ventures forward. In turn, these young entrepreneurs create jobs, stimulate local economies and contribute to Tanzania’s vision of a vibrant, tech‑enabled future.
